The stories of Uncle Remus are authentic African-American folklore, told in the dialect of middle Georgia and coastal Georgia slaves.
He spent many hours with the slaves listening to their folklore.
They also represent great literature, for Harris
was able to translate the spoken dialect into an 18th century literary frame -- a story within a story. Harris as narrator tells stories of Uncle Remus, who in turn tells stories to a little white boy.
Wonderful stories of Brer Rabbit and Brer Fox and the other creatures who lived and schemed and socialized along the Big Road...................................Song of the South, the Walt Disney classic film was based on the work of Harris.
